BASICS OF MUSIC LAW

Absolutely no one is expecting you to be able to wear the hat of music lawyer whilst you’re juggling being a musician, a marketeer, a booker and many of the other roles that you may be currently fulfilling. However, it is important to be aware of the important elements of music law that are in place to protect you and your musical output.

In this session we’ll be covering copyright law, along with a look through agreements and contracts by exploring the different scenarios that require having these in place.

Sessions we’ve hosted with music lawyers in the past have focussed on situations that have made life difficult for musicians that could have been avoided by having agreements in place that clarify copyright ownership, confirmed writing splits, payment terms amongst others. We’ll be delving into this and discussing situations that we are likely to encounter at different stages of our careers.

As part of this session we will also discuss the conversations that you may have with managers, labels, publishers and agents which could lead into agreements or contracts being drawn up.
