DIRECT INPUT: LEWIS LAWRENCE – RUSSELLS (ONLINE)

20/10/22 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm

For this online addition of our ‘The Anatomy of…’ series, we’re exploring music law. We’ll be chatting with Lewis from Russells about the role law plays in the career of a musician. This session will cover basic principles to take on board when we are finding our feet releasing (and making money from) music.

We will be looking at the importance of having independent legal representation when we are negotiating relationships with labels, manager and publishers. An important part of this discussion will be covering the different elements that we need to be mindful of that could come back to haunt us in the future if we’re not careful, even when working with pals.

We’ll also be considering some of the common agreements we may come across or need to create and also important points when starting to look at more involved contracts, such as record deals, particularly around rights.

Lewis is a solicitor at Russells, a top-tier music and entertainment industry specialist law firm based in London.  He advises and negotiates on behalf of new and established artists/writers, producers, managers, record labels and publishers, as well as live performers, booking agents, promoters and festivals.
