GOING SOLO
25/02/25 6:00 pm - 9:00 pmOne of the points that came from our current Propeller survey was from solo artists that don’t have the buffer of bandmates to support them as they navigate their careers and the industry. The disconnection that they can feel and the need for an opportunity to connect with others with similar experiences. Naturally, we wanted to do something about this. To create a Propeller session that promotes that connectivity between solo artists, to share their experiences and support each other.
‘Going Solo’ will take place for the second time on Tuesday 25th February in the evening. We’ll be kicking things off with a one hour workshop from 6pm, which will be an exploration into the practices of the solo artists in our community. To gather information on how you all work and to share how you go about fulfilling the duties of the many roles that you have to undertake when working alone. You may be a solo artist that works absolutely alone, or you may collaborate with other creatives or team members in different ways (such as performing live with a band) – but you are still just you, when it comes down to it.
After the workshop, we’ll then have the opportunity to get to know each other and chat more informally about some of the issues and solutions raised in the workshop. We’ll even provide the pizza, because no one is likely to feel particularly sociable and friendly on an empty stomach, are they.
This session will be led by artist mentor Katie Mac, who is our resident solo artist in the Propeller team. She’ll also be looking at some of the topics raised to see how Propeller can further support our solo artists, too. Katie also hosts our Open Mic, which is a great opportunity for solo artists to perform.
