WORKSHOP: THE BUSINESS TOOL BOX

10/02/25 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

This session is dedicated to getting you ready to register your musical project as a business, thus making it official.

If you are at the stage where money is being spent and earned in relation to your musical endeavours, then it may be time for you to get registered with HMRC (and Companies House). Particularly if you are spending money, sending out invoices and generating royalties.

We’ll be going through everything you need to know and consider when doing this. How you can be getting ready to take the plunge into business registration, so that important practices that are essential when we make it official, can turn into habit.

We will discuss the indications that tell us if you are at the right point in your project’s development to get registered and if you’re not, when to re-evaluate your activity.

We will also discuss the roles of music accountants and lawyers and where they fit in amongst all of this.

The other thing that will feature in this session, is someone very straight forward templates that you can either use yourselves, or use them to inform your own way of laying things out – whatever makes sense to you visually.

This session is about looking after yourselves, which you can’t really do unless you know what can go wrong – so we’ll cover this, too.

Following this workshop, there are two opportunities for you to go through the process of business/tax registration at Future Yard with support. This applies to those registering as sole traders (solo artists) or partnerships (bands). These sessions take place on the 24th or 27th February.
