HOSTED BY NINA HIMMELREICH
FRIDAY 10TH JANUARY
Session 1: 10.30am – 11.30am
BEACON @ FUTURE YARD
Our first discussion of the day has been put together by our local scene champion, Nina Himmelreich.
Nina is a seasoned music industry professional and researcher, currently pursuing a PhD on Gender Equality in the German Music Industry. Her research on gender representation in the German charts and on festival stages was featured in the latest Keychange report. She also works on the Live Music Mapping Project, is the director of Liverpool’s ‘Music Yellow Pages’ MusicSeen, host ‘Plattenschatz im Schattenplatz’, a radio show highlighting work by women in music, performs actively as a bassist and singer and lectures at LIPA.
ACTIVELY SEEKING EQUITY
For this discussion, we will be exploring some of the current issues faced by women and marginalised gender identities in the music industry and the solutions that are aimed at tackling these issues. There are many great initiatives that are helping us achieve a more level playing field, not just on a national and international level, but also locally.
What, practically, can we do to make our local music scene a fairer and safer environment and whose responsibility is it to put this into action?
Nina is joined by:
GALS WHO GIG
