SONGWRITING PROGRAMME

DEADLINE: 21/05/24

Introducing our new 8-week songwriting programme taking place on weekly Tuesday evenings at Future Yard, led by PROPELLER mentor Katie Mac:

Our songwriting programme is open to anyone over the age of 18 with an interest in improving their songwriting skills. You must be available to attend all 8 sessions. The programme consists of six workshops (6pm-9pm) and two Open Mics (7pm-10pm) for you to perform your creations.

There are 12 spaces available and this as an open call-out, but members of Propeller (our free to access talent development programme) will be prioritised. To grab your space, please fill out the below form asap (please read all the info first). We’ll confirm if you have bagged a space on the programme no later than Friday 10th May. Once all spaces have been taken, we’ll close off submissions.

The first three workshops will focus on writing songs on your own and the last three workshops will look at collaboration with others. For this programme, there will be more of a focus on lyrics than melody.

All those taking part in the programme will also receive 10 hours of free rehearsal time at Future Yard which can be used whenever suits you.

The dates of the sessions are as follows:

TUESDAY 21ST MAY: 6PM – 9PM (WORKSHOP)
TUESDAY 28TH MAY: 6PM – 9PM (WORKSHOP)
TUESDAY 4TH JUNE: 6PM – 9PM (WORKSHOP)
TUESDAY 11TH JUNE: 7PM – 10PM (OPEN MIC IN THE LIVE ROOM)
TUESDAY 18TH JUNE: 6PM – 9PM (WORKSHOP)
TUESDAY 25TH JUNE: 6PM – 9PM (WORKSHOP)
TUESDAY 2ND JULY: 6PM – 9PM (WORKSHOP)
TUESDAY 9TH JULY: 7PM – 10PM (OPEN MIC IN THE GARDEN)

The important stuff:
– You must be over the age of 18.
– All abilities and experience levels are welcome.
– Playing an instrument is very much optional.
– Performing your creations is part of the programme.
– You must be prepared to not only develop songs on your own, but also collaborate with other members of the group.
– The programme will help you get rid of that fear of a blank page and help you with starting points that combat writers block.
– You will explore different techniques that may help you discover which one works best for you.
– We anticipate that you will finish this 8 week programme with at least 3 songs.
– You will not be judged on the quality of your output, it’s all part of the process.
– There is no such thing as failure.
– We will all support each other and appreciate our different experiences.
– The workshops will take place on the first floor workshop space at Future Yard, which unfortunately does not have lift access.
– To redeem your free rehearsal time requires a Propeller membership.
– Our Open Mic is open to all and will not just be attended by those taking part in the songwriting programme.
– You must be available for all sessions.

If you’d like to take part, please fill out this form.
